2008 NFB-PA Parents' Seminar

[put on by the Pennsylvania Parents of Blind Children (PaPOBC)

Offered in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Association of Blind Students group

Open to all Pennsylvania students from middle school through graduate school

As a preliminary matter, I set forth Dr. Kenneth Jergigan's (and the

NFB's) definition of "blindness," "An individual may properly be said to be "blind" or a "blind person" when he has to devise so many alternative techniques - that is, if he is to function efficiently - that his pattern of daily living is substantially altered."

Additionally, note that our young children will benefit from role models that the Student group will provide!

March 1-2, 2008

Throughout both days, NFB literature will be available FREE of charge!

Registration fee is $35.00. This fee INCLUDES PaPOBC membership for your entire (immediate - spouse, children) family for 2008 - which itself includes your NFB-PA, NOPBC, and national NFB membership for the entire year.

We are working to provide activities for younger children during seminar times. Please contact Carlton Walker (717-485-3383 or

AttorneyWalker@gmail.com) for any questions and/or concerns regarding childcare matters.

Dinner and hanging out - both kids and parents.

We are planning to order in food (chip in for pizza or bring your own) and hang out. This will be a great opportunity for parents to network and children to socialize.

7:00 p.m. -until - NFB-PA Students' Banquet Parents and families are invited to this event, but it is not an official part of the Parents' Seminar. However, this would likely be a great opportunity to children and their parents who are eligible for the Student Association. I will post additional information, as I receive it.

DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS

Though events are still being finalized, we plan to have educational and fun opportunities for both parents and children. Additionally, please note that the Students have secured a TERRIFIC hotel rate of $80 per night! Actually, the room rates are $80 for doubles, plus $10 for every extra person. This is a BIG discount over the regular rate for that weekend of $126/night plus $10 per person over 2 in the room

-- A $66/night discount!

We DO need to reserve a combined (with students) total of 10 rooms.

To be guaranteed space and our rate, you must make their reservations with the hotel by February 1, and you must mention that they are with the National Federation of the Blind. The hotel can be reached at 814-231-2100.

If you have ANY questions (or ideas for additional topics) please contact me ASAP!

Take care, and I look forward to seeing you in State College in March!
