Pennsylvania Parents Of Blind Children

Pennsylvania Parents Of Blind Children (PAPOBC) is dedicated to serving the needs of Pennsylvania's blind and visually impaired children and their parents.

PAPOBC provides information, support and advocacy via group seminars, individual meetings and consultations. PAPOBC is a division of the National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania (NFB-PA). PAPOBC is also part of the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children (NOPOBC) and the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), which are headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. Through its association with these national organizations, PAPOBC acts as a pathway to unlimited resources which serve the needs of blind children and their parents on topics such as age-appropriate development, Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, IEPs, adaptive technology, legal rights, etc.

The PAPOBC Mission Statement and "Vision for the Future" is provided below to introduce new parents to PAPOBC and to serve as a touchstone for current members.

MISSION STATEMENT

The PAPOBC is a statewide parent advocacy organization that creates a lifetime of security, equality, independence and opportunity for Pennsylvania blind and visually impaired children and their families.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

* PAPOBC will be a strong, active, vital, resourceful, recognized, respected and influential advocacy organization for blind and visually impaired children in the State Of Pennsylvania * PAPOBC will represent blind and visually impaired children and their parents throughout the entire State Of Pennsylvania with membership in every county and major city

* PAPOBC will be active and successful in state and federal legislation including the passage of a state Braille Literacy Bill.

* PAPOBC will develop positive interdependent relationships with Pennsylvania state service providers and educators and favorably influence the provision of necessary services, education, electronic textbooks and assistive technology

* PAPOBC will be fully unified and networked among Pennsylvania parents and children, the NOPOBC, the NFB Of Pennsylvania and the NFB in mutually cooperative, resourceful and successful relationships
